ICE detains convicted sex offender Mahad Abdulkadir Yusuf from Somalia

ICE Arrests Somali Sex Offender in Minnesota

On December 31, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents took into custody an undocumented immigrant from Somalia, identified as Mahad Abdulkadir Yusuf, during a focused operation in Minnesota, according to reports.

Yusuf has a troubling history, including a prior conviction for first-degree criminal sexual conduct, where he coerced a victim into performing oral sex multiple times. Additionally, he had a prior arrest in 2016 for suspected first-degree assault and is facing an active warrant for obstructing police operations starting in 2024.

ICE pointed out that Yusuf, who entered the United States in 1996 and was a lawful permanent resident at that time, basically “abandoned his quest for the American Dream” by committing serious crimes against society.

In a statement, ICE criticized Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey for allowing policies that, they say, enabled dangerous criminals like Yusuf to live freely and pose a risk to residents.

Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) reported that agents had previously tried to apprehend Yusuf but were hindered by management at his apartment complex, who allegedly did not allow them access.

Mark Zito, HSI Special Agent in Charge, expressed concerns over misinformation surrounding local protection policies, emphasizing that local governments’ non-cooperation with ICE allows criminals, including sex offenders, to evade justice.

In the wake of a controversial ICE shooting that resulted in the death of 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good in Minneapolis, federal immigration authorities are facing intensified scrutiny. Some Democratic lawmakers, including Governor Walz and Mayor Frey, have criticized ICE’s actions and demanded their removal from the city.

President Trump responded to the shooting, describing the incident as “horrific” and urging public support for law enforcement’s safety efforts. Meanwhile, Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem alleged that Good had been “stalking and obstructing” ICE agents prior to the confrontation and claimed she tried to use her vehicle against officers.
