Federal agents in Indiana have recently detained two undocumented immigrants linked to serious crimes, including murder and strangulation.
As per a statement from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) shared on X, they, along with FBI agents, apprehended a Honduran national named Jonny Handy Martinez-Barillas, who is allegedly affiliated with the MS-13 gang. Officials noted that Martinez-Barillas has a history of first-degree murder charges and illegal firearm possession.
During the operation, additional illegal immigrant activity was identified, as another individual was found in the passenger seat.
There’s ongoing enforcement pressure from ICE, suggesting they aim to keep communities safe as they work through their caseloads. In Maryland, support from state police for ICE operations has been evident, highlighting cooperative efforts to tackle illegal immigration.
ICE also announced that Danilo Amilcar-Escobar, who has been deported multiple times since April 2024, was taken into custody. He faces allegations of strangulation, domestic battery, and possession of cocaine.
The agency asserted that they’ll ensure these individuals stay off the streets until legal processes are finalized, which could potentially involve returning them to Honduras.
The recent arrests come at a time when there has been a staggering 700% increase in attacks on federal immigration personnel compared to the previous year. This week, violent confrontations were reported, prompting the White House to call for more responsible rhetoric from Congressional Democrats following a serious incident in Texas, where a suspect was killed after injuring a police officer and two federal agents.
