ICE detains undocumented immigrant looking for refuge at Colorado probation office

An undocumented immigrant was taken into custody on Tuesday after trying to find refuge at the Colorado Probation Department, as reported by officials.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents were originally focused on Darwin Alice Sierra, a 35-year-old Venezuelan man who had been convicted of DUI during a traffic stop.

Interestingly, Sierra was actually a passenger in a vehicle operated by 32-year-old Carolina Suarez-Esterda, a Colombian national.

As agents initiated a vehicle stop in Chaffee County, Suarez-Esterda opted not to pull over, instead driving straight to the county probation department in search of sanctuary.

“ICE officers eventually apprehended her and placed her in custody, where she will await immigration proceedings,” the agency stated.

In May, the Trump administration had announced it would not include Chaffee County in its list of sanctuary jurisdictions—as part of a broader effort to collaborate with immigration enforcement.

This week, U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi mentioned that jurisdictions identified as sanctuary areas must comply with federal immigration laws or risk facing repercussions from the Department of Justice.

Bondi emphasized that under President Trump, cooperation from both state and local governments regarding immigration enforcement remains a significant priority.

Fox News Digital reached out to the Chaffee County Probation Office for further comments.
