ICE Arrests Illegal Immigrant Working as Police Officer in Illinois
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has detained a police officer who was an illegal immigrant in a Chicago suburb.
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) reported on this arrest in a press release issued on Thursday.
Radul Bojovic, originally from Montenegro, was employed at the Hanover Park Police Station. His arrest took place during Operation Midway Blitz, a campaign focused on apprehending undocumented immigrants who were previously allowed to stay in Illinois due to the state’s sanctuary policies.
Authorities indicated that Bojovic had exceeded the timeline of his B2 tourist visa, which he was supposed to leave by on March 31, 2015.
According to records from the Hanover Park Police Department, Bojovic was approved for employment in January, resulting in a starting salary of $78,995. Additional financial disclosures revealed that his income in 2025 resulted in a taxpayer burden of $205,707, which included $9,276 in FICA and Medicare taxes, according to DHS.
“Governor J.B. Pritzker not only allows violent illegal aliens to cause havoc in Illinois communities, but he also permits them to serve as sworn police officers,” said DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin. Bojovic has been living illegally in the U.S. for a decade. It’s quite troubling to think that police forces are giving badges and guns to those who have committed offenses. It’s illegal for non-citizens to even possess firearms. They are actively breaking the law,” she stated. “Under President Trump and Secretary Noem, ICE is reaffirming law and order. Criminal undocumented immigrants should not be part of our communities, particularly in law enforcement.”
DHS pointed out that “it is a felony for an illegal immigrant to carry a firearm.”
This isn’t an isolated incident; there have been other cases this year of foreign nationals working in law enforcement roles.
For example, in July, Jamaican John Luke Evans, a reservist in Maine, was arrested by ICE while attempting to buy a gun illegally. He had been part of a police force in a sanctuary jurisdiction that resisted federal efforts to enforce stricter immigration laws.
