Federal Enforcement Targets Violent Undocumented Immigrants

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced on Friday that federal agents have made additional arrests of undocumented immigrants who have been convicted of serious crimes, including violent and sexual offenses.

According to DHS, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents apprehended multiple individuals on Thursday, whose past convictions include child rape, sexual assault of minors, methamphetamine trafficking, and aggravated assault.

Outgoing Assistant Secretary of Homeland Security Tricia McLaughlin commented on the situation, noting, “ICE continues to pursue criminal illegal aliens, including pedophiles, violent sex offenders, and drug traffickers, even despite a more than 1,300 percent rise in threats, harassment, and assaults against them.”

Arrests highlighted this week include:

  • Michelle Rodriguez Berrio, an undocumented immigrant from Colombia, convicted of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor in Salt Lake City, Utah.
  • Rene Lopez-Balbuena, another undocumented immigrant from Mexico, who faced convictions related to endangering the welfare of a child and sexual assault of a child in Monmouth County, New Jersey.
  • Detective Luis Elias Santos, also from Mexico, who was convicted of second-degree statutory rape in Boone County, Missouri.
  • Giovanny Porras-Rodriguez, an undocumented immigrant criminal from Mexico, convicted of methamphetamine trafficking in Buncombe County, North Carolina.
  • Leonardo Garcia-Meza, who was convicted in Collin County, Texas, of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Earlier this month, a DHS representative mentioned that ICE agents are “facing a coordinated campaign of violence against them.” Disturbingly, assaults against ICE officers have reportedly surged by over 1,300%, and there has been an 8,000% increase in death threats, alongside a 3,200% rise in vehicular attacks.

McLaughlin pointed out that “nearly 70% of ICE arrests are illegal aliens who have been convicted or charged with a crime in the United States.” She further emphasized, “If you break the law, you face the consequences. Illegal aliens who commit crimes are not welcome in the United States.”

As of now, DHS has not provided a comment in response to inquiries from media sources.
