Legal Proceedings Over Kilmer Abrego Garcia’s Deportation
President Donald Trump’s immigration and customs enforcement agency is ongoing with a legal struggle regarding the deportation of Kilmer Abrego Garcia, an undocumented immigrant from El Salvador.
The situation is complicated by a statement from ICE, which remarked, “It’s hard to take fear claims seriously, particularly when they assert persecution and torture in at least 22 different countries.”
Documents obtained by Fox News indicate ICE’s intention to send Abrego Garcia to Eswatini, a small nation in South Africa.
Last month, a federal judge intervened, preventing ICE from deporting him to Uganda. In communication dated Friday, ICE informed Abrego Garcia, “The US seeks to remove you based on your final removal order. You are currently slated for deportation to Uganda, and your attorney has communicated your fear of persecution and torture there.”
The letter went on to list approximately 20 countries, including El Salvador, Mexico, Belize, Costa Rica, Guatemala, and Honduras, highlighting similarly expressed fears by Abrego Garcia.
Despite being previously deported to a prison in El Salvador in March, he returned to the U.S. in June facing trafficking charges, to which he pleaded not guilty.
The federal government accuses Abrego Garcia of being involved in extensive criminal activities since his arrival in the U.S., while he denies any affiliation with the MS-13 gang.
Currently, Abrego Garcia is housed in the Detention Center in Farmville, Virginia, waiting for deportation following a judge’s order from 2019.
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem described him as “a dangerous individual, suspected of terrorist associations and known connections to MS-13,” emphasizing that holding him accountable is crucial for public safety.
