ICE issues hold for undocumented immigrant accused of murdering his wife

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has urged Texas officials to keep an undocumented immigrant in custody following an incident in Dallas where he allegedly slit his wife’s throat. This tragic event involved Francisco Mendez-Marin, a 24-year-old undocumented immigrant from Mexico, who was apprehended by the Carrollton Police on March 18, facing charges of felony murder for allegedly killing his wife, Carla Rangel, who was just 20 years old, amid a domestic dispute.

Interestingly, they had been married for less than a month when the incident occurred. Upon arriving at the scene, police found evidence, including blood on Mendez-Marin’s clothing and a bloody pocketknife.

According to a police affidavit, body camera footage captured Mendez-Marin asserting in Spanish, “I didn’t do anything wrong” and “I had an obligation to do it.” These statements certainly raise questions about his mindset during the incident.

In a statement, Acting Assistant Secretary of Homeland Security Lauren Biss said, “This depraved animal murdered his own wife by brutally slitting her throat with a pocketknife just one month after they were married.” Biss emphasized that Mendez-Marin, as an illegal immigrant, should not have entered the country to commit such a horrific act.

“ICE has asked Dallas authorities not to release this cold-blooded killer onto the streets,” she continued. “Thankfully, Dallas politicians are cooperating with ICE, so we can work together to ensure this killer is never released into American communities.”

As of now, Mendez-Marin remains in custody at the Dallas County Jail, according to the DHS.
