ICE makes significant arrest following contentious plea agreement by blue county attorney

Immigration officials, along with Virginia State Police, arrested illegal immigrants who had been let go following a plea deal facilitated by the Fairfax County Federal Lawyer’s Office.

One of those arrested, Wilmer Osmany Ramos Guillon, a 34-year-old Guatemalan national, had faced felony charges earlier this year, including assaulting a family member and causing injuries to a Virginia woman.

Interestingly, Ramos Guillon only served about two months in the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.

The County Attorney’s Office, led by Democrat Steve Descano, arranged a plea deal that downgraded Ramos Guillon’s charges to misdemeanors. Had he been convicted of the felony charges, he could have faced up to 16 years in prison; the details were reported by ABC 7.

Democratic prosecutors disappoint illegal immigrants involved in serious charges

According to the outlet, the attorney’s office mentioned that the plea agreement reflected what the victim wanted, though the victim disputed that claim. It’s also worth noting that Ramos Guillon has been deported twice before; despite this, he’s managed to find his way back to the United States. However, ICE is unclear about the exact timing of his return.

Republican Governor Glenn Youngkin’s office welcomed the recent arrest on April 24, saying, “It’s unfortunate that Fairfax Commonwealth Lawyers seem more focused on protecting dangerous illegal immigrants than on the safety of Virginians,” as noted by spokesperson Peter Finocchio in a statement to Fox News Digital.

Finocchio added, “Thankfully, Wilmer Osmany Ramos-Giron will no longer pose a threat to Virginia families, thanks to the brave actions of our federal and state law enforcement heroes.”

Descano’s campaign has reportedly received over $627,000 from the Judicial and Public Safety PAC between 2019 and 2023, with a significant portion of those funds stemming from liberal billionaire George Soros.

Youngkin highlights over 425 immigrant criminals in Virginia

Democratic Fairfax County District Attorney Steve Descano has a clear stance on enforcing federal immigration laws, although he has a history of not recognizing many ICE detainees, as reported by ABC 7.

“Wilmer Ramos Guillon is a major threat to Virginia residents,” stated Russell Hot, who leads the Washington, D.C. Field Office for ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations.

He emphasized, “Ramos Guillon has shown a blatant disregard for our immigration laws—and more importantly, for the safety and well-being of our community. He is a violent recidivist who poses a serious threat that can’t be overlooked. Our neighborhoods deserve justice.”

Looking back at Trump’s early immigration enforcement efforts

Descano’s office has yet to respond to several requests for comments regarding this issue.

As ICE continues its efforts to tackle illegal immigration, the implications for public safety remain a concern, especially as state and local laws undergo scrutiny across the country. Recently, California announced it would transfer illegal immigrants into ICE custody following the planned release of an individual convicted of killing two teenagers in a DUI manslaughter case after serving a ten-year sentence.
