ICE says Tren de Aragua member arrested

According to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, a Venezuelan Tren de Aragua member living in the United States was unlawfully arrested by authorities in an ICE removal operation earlier this month. press releasethe person is listed as having been arrested by the Cicero Police Department last month but released.

“On February 24, the Cicero Police Department arrested Rodriguez Carmona on charges of felonious unlawful use of a weapon, failure to possess a firearm identification card, driving without a license, driving without insurance, and possession of adult-use marijuana in a motor vehicle.Carmona was later released,” an ICE press release said. “On March 11th, ERO officers arrested a 29-year-old man outside his home without incident. Rodriguez-Carmona is currently being held at the Dodge County Detention Center in Juneau, Wisconsin, and is subject to immigration deportation. Proceedings are pending.”

“This non-Venezuelan national posed a serious threat to the residents of our community,” Raymond Hernandez, deputy director of ERO’s Chicago field office, said in a statement. “Not only is he a legitimate member of a transnational street gang, but he has also demonstrated a willingness to illegally discharge a firearm in public. ERO Chicago will continue to work to remove threats like this from our streets. Public safety will be our priority.”

“On July 7, 2023, an immigration judge issued a final order of removal against Rodriguez-Carmona in absentia,” the press release states.

Recently, several Republicans I participated Letter urging President Joe Biden to designate Torren de Aragua as a “transnational criminal organization.” In their letter, the lawmakers say Torren de Aragua has been involved in heinous activities, including human trafficking and murder.

“Tren de Aragua is a criminal army that has infiltrated from Venezuelan prisons and is spreading its brutality and chaos to the cities and small towns of the United States.” letter declares. “The scope of Torren de Aragua’s activities ranges from murder, drug and human trafficking, sex crimes, extortion, kidnapping, and other atrocities. It’s clear we’re not yet ready to deal with the threat.”
