ICE Shoots Illegal Immigrant Following Car Ramming Attempt, According to DHS

Shooting Incident Involving ICE Agents in Houston

On Tuesday morning, a Mexican man was shot and killed during an immigration arrest attempt by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents in Houston, Texas.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) reported that officers attempted to stop a vehicle around 6:50 a.m. as part of an operation to detain Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, an undocumented immigrant from Mexico. According to the DHS, the driver did not follow commands.

Authorities stated that Salgado Araujo allegedly drove his vehicle into an ICE enforcement vehicle, ignored multiple verbal instructions, and used his vehicle to try to hit an ICE officer. This led to the officers firing their weapons in self-defense.

DHS indicated that Salgado Araujo was transported to a hospital, where he later died. An investigation into the shooting has been initiated by the department’s inspector general, while the FBI’s Houston office is looking into reports of an assault on a federal employee. The agent who discharged their weapon has not yet been identified, as reported by Texas Tribune.

The Houston Fire Department found the man with a gunshot wound in the city’s East End, according to information from Houston Public Media.

Ronaldo Salgado, the victim’s son, took to Facebook to criticize the official narrative. He mentioned that his father, who had been in the U.S. for nearly 35 years and worked in construction, was on his way to pick up an employee that morning. “My father didn’t deserve this,” he stated.

In response to the incident, Democratic Representative Sylvia Garcia, whose district covers the area, called for an independent investigation. “The facts leading to the use of deadly force must be thoroughly examined,” she emphasized.

This shooting incident follows a similar occurrence in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, just days earlier, where ICE reported that another Mexican man, Clemente Lara Hernandez, who has a criminal history, also fled from police after ramming a federal vehicle.
