Idaho hiker, 89, vanishes after setting off on trail over a week ago

An 89-year-old hiker is missing in Idaho, having last been seen setting out on a hiking trail more than a week ago, authorities said.

Bing Albaum left the Hunter Creek Trailhead on Aug. 1 but did not reach the exit in the McDonald Creek area, the Custer County Sheriff’s Office said. The trailhead is in the Salmon-Challis National Forest.

Authorities said search and rescue teams had been dispatched and were combing all possible avenues to find Orbum.

As of Sunday morning, search and rescue teams reported they had found no sign of the 89-year-old man.

Fox Digital reached out to the Custer County Sheriff’s Office for more information about the search but did not immediately receive a response.

Authorities said Olbam was reported missing on Aug. 6. She was described as 5 feet 10 inches tall with brown eyes and white hair.

According to the sheriff’s office, the 89-year-old man was dropped off at the trailhead by a family member and had a five-day supply of supplies with him when he began his climb. ABC News.

Sunday marked the 11th day since Olbam was last seen.

According to the U.S. Forest Service, the Salmon-Challis National Forest spans more than 4.3 million acres in east-central Idaho. The Hunter Creek Trailhead is located north of Boise.

“The trail follows the stream to the head of the canyon where the zigzag path becomes steeper and more difficult,” a description of the trail on the U.S. Forest Service website says. “At the top, the trees disappear and Mount Ryan (elevation 11,714 feet) and Kent Peak are clearly visible.”
