IDF Begins ‘Operation Gideon’s Chariots’ to Remove Hamas from Gaza

IDF Launches Operation Gideon

The Israeli Defense Force (IDF) announced on Friday the initiation of “Operation Gideon.” Earlier this month, Israel prepared for this action, warning Hamas that the outcome of President Donald Trump’s visit to the region was contingent on their response to the deployment of Gideon’s tanks.

According to military analysts, “Gideon’s Tanks” is intended as a comprehensive strategy of “clear, hold, build” aimed at dismantling Hamas and establishing non-militarized governing authorities in Gaza.

Israel’s approach appears to focus on exerting military pressure to secure the remaining hostages, emphasizing the need to isolate those Hamas factions holding prisoners rather than engaging with its leadership, which seems unwilling to find common ground.

In its statement, the IDF noted that:
“In the past day, we initiated extensive strikes to establish operational control in the Gaza Strip. This is part of our efforts to broaden operations and achieve our hostage recovery objectives, including dismantling Hamas organizations.” The IDF also reaffirmed its commitment to protecting Israeli civilians while pursuing its military goals.

This week, Hamas released Edan Alexander, a hostage held for both American and Israeli interests, but no further releases have been reported. Of the approximately 60 hostages, it is believed that around 20 are still alive in Hamas custody.

The Trump administration is expected to join other nations in expressing concern for humanitarian conditions in Gaza, yet it is likely to allow the IDF to continue its operations as deemed necessary to achieve objectives in the area described by Trump as a “free zone” during his recent visit to the Middle East.
