The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) on Friday released footage of a network of Hamas terrorist tunnels discovered beneath the Blue Beach Hotel, an elite luxury resort in Gaza.
The IDF said in a statement:
The 14th Brigade of the 162nd Division, in cooperation with the Yahalom Special Installations Force, operated on Hamas' infrastructure, which included seven tunnel shafts and terrorist quarters within them. The infrastructure is located at the Blue Beach Hotel on the northern Gaza Strip beach. This week, Yahalom Force troops used a variety of methods to locate the tunnel's route and destroy its infrastructure.
Hamas terrorists used hotels as shelters to plan and carry out attacks both above ground and underground. A number of weapons were found under the hotel, including an AK-47 assault rifle, explosives and a drone. During the fighting, dozens of Hamas terrorists stationed at the hotel fired anti-tank missiles at the IDF, which then fired back.During the unit's operation in the hotel area, the soldiers encountered and eliminated terrorists
Over the past few months, the 14th Battalion's reservists have operated in three locations in the northern Gaza Strip: North Jabaliya, Beit Hanoun, and Gaza City. During the fighting, soldiers destroyed weapons storage facilities, missile launch sites and underground command centers used by Hamas.
The Blue Beach Hotel belies the depiction of Gaza as an “open-air prison”, which is common in Palestinian propaganda.
