The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced Sunday that it would attack Hamas in northern Gaza, mainly around the Jabaliya area, and warned residents to leave while expanding the humanitarian zone further south.
The IDF said in a statement:
Following prior IDF intelligence, ongoing situation assessments, and on-the-ground IDF operations indicating the presence of terrorists and terrorist infrastructure in the Jabaliya area of northern Gaza Strip, as well as Hamas efforts to rebuild operational capabilities in the Gaza Strip. The 162nd Division began operations in the Jabariya area on Sunday night.
Units from the 401st and 460th Brigades successfully encircled the area and continue to operate there.
Before and during the operation, the IAF attacked dozens of military targets in support of IDF ground forces. Among the targets attacked were weapons storage facilities, underground infrastructure facilities, terrorist camps, and additional military infrastructure facilities.
This operation to systematically dismantle terrorist infrastructure in the region will continue as long as necessary to achieve its objectives.
All Hamas battalions have been crushed, but the terrorist organization continues to function in guerrilla mode.
Residents of Nuseyrat in central Gaza were also ordered to evacuate for the first time since the start of the war.
The IDF continues to fight in Gaza and other front lines, even as it moves into southern Lebanon. The multi-front war is both a necessity and a symbol of Israel's strength and capabilities on the eve of the October 7th anniversary.
