The Israel Defense Forces announced on Sunday morning that they were carrying out retaliatory strikes against the Iran-backed terrorist group Hezbollah in Lebanon.
This comes after the Israel Defense Forces said Hezbollah had carried out around 115 airstrikes on civilian areas in northern Israel over a period of several hours.
The Israel Defense Forces said its air defenses were deployed in northern Israel and were fully prepared to thwart any threats aimed at the region. Air defense systems intercepted multiple projectiles over Haifa, Israel.

The military said attacks against Hezbollah would continue and intensify.
The Israel Defense Forces also announced that the Israeli Air Force carried out precision strikes on Hamas terrorists at a compound in the northern Gaza Strip.
The IDF said numerous measures had been taken to reduce the risk of harm to civilians before the attack, including the use of precision weapons, aerial surveillance and gathering additional intelligence.

Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant held several meetings with U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin over the weekend about the situation in northern Israel.
Gallant briefed Austin on the specific operation the IDF carried out to eliminate Ibrahim Akil, head of Hezbollah's operational unit and commander of the Radwan Forces, a senior Hezbollah official who has been the architect of numerous terrorist attacks against Israel and who is wanted by the United States for the murder of Israeli citizens.
The minister also spoke about Israel's defense posture and operations against Hezbollah's continuing attacks on cities and civilian areas in northern Israel. He said the goal is to ensure that communities in northern Israel can return to their homes.

Gallant also spoke to Austin about the IDF's ongoing operations against Hamas in Gaza, and stressed its determination to free the more than 100 hostages still being held by Hamas.
He thanked Austin and U.S. leaders for reaffirming their commitment to Israel.
