IDF video counters Hamas's claims from October 7

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) released video footage on Saturday depicting Hamas attacks against civilians during the massacre on October 7, 2023. This release contradicts a recent Hamas report that claims its fighters did not target civilians.

The IDF shared a post on X, which included a previously released 10-minute video showcasing violent acts against civilians. It highlights “some of the events” recorded during the Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad attacks that resulted in over 1,200 fatalities in Israel. This toll includes 348 young individuals who were found deceased at the Supernova music festival.

Additionally, 251 people were reportedly taken captive to Gaza.

This response from the IDF followed Hamas’s release of a 42-page document on December 24, in which they denied intentionally targeting civilians, hospitals, and schools during their cross-border operations. The document, which was distributed by Ramy Abdu, the director of Euromed human rights monitoring, asserts that Hamas had been instructed to avoid civilian sites and calls for an independent probe into the allegations related to casualties from the International Criminal Court.

The IDF stated, “These are not allegations. These are documented events,” in their post.

The military emphasized that the 11-minute video captures “part” of what transpired during the deadly assaults linked to Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad, which left over 1,200 people dead in Israel.

The Hamas report also accused Israel of disseminating misinformation about the events of October 7, which led to the ongoing conflict in Gaza.

According to an IDF statement from October 6, 2024, the October 7 attack resulted in the deaths or abductions of citizens from at least 40 different countries, including Americans, Thais, French, Germans, British, Russians, Argentines, and Canadians, as well as people from the Philippines, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Brazil, Chile, along with others from Europe, Africa, and Asia.
