America’s existence is rooted in a collection of critical values. Perhaps foremost among these values is the rule of law. Our society cannot survive without respect for law and order. It all starts at the top.
In this case, the misconduct we see can be traced back to the days of President Barack Obama. Obama weaponized the IRS and FBI to attack his political opponents. More than a decade later, his disdain for the rule of law is pervasive. Democratic politicians like Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer, Adam Schiff, Bernie Sanders, and Maxine Waters routinely ignore the rule of law when it suits their purposes.
As contempt for the country’s laws grows, citizens are left with the impression that they can decide for themselves which laws to obey.
By refusing to enforce various laws (he called it “prosecutorial discretion”), President Obama fostered an atmosphere of contempt for law and order that was unthinkable just a few years ago. . We are now suffering from his failure as social order collapses due to the breakdown of basic legal principles, disregard for existing laws, and the imposition of arbitrary standards of justice.
First, a breakdown of the basic legal principles. Local governments, virtually all run by Democrats, show more interest in criminals than in law-abiding citizens. Our cities are being torn apart by rioting, looting, and arson as mayors and governors encourage a breakdown in public order.
A prime example is New York City Mayor Eric Adams. Adams believes the city’s massive crime problem can be solved by cutting back on criminals. Instead, he places the blame on alleged white racism. Simply put, Adams is abdicating his responsibility to fight crime by playing the race card.
Adams expressed support for Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s soft-on-crime stance. Hannah E. Myers wrote in the City Journal that Mr. Bragg won election “on a very progressive platform advocating a prosecutorial emphasis on ‘racial equity'” and “non-incarceration and decriminalization.” “We support legal reform, accept non-prosecution, and minimize detention.” Mr. Bragg’s office does not seek prison time for crimes other than murder or some types of deadly assault. Minor crimes such as trespassing, theft, fare violations, routine traffic violations, and prostitution are not prosecuted at all.
Under Mr. Bragg’s watch, armed robbers who use a gun or other deadly weapon to rob a store can only do so if the victim is not seriously injured and there is no “real risk of physical harm” to anyone. , will be charged with petty theft, a misdemeanor. When a robber points a loaded weapon at a victim, there cannot be a “true risk of bodily harm.” This is pure double talk. This suggests that Mr. Bragg will bend over backwards to avoid criminal prosecution.
When criminals commit violent crimes and are arrested, they are back on the streets the next day, if not within hours. In New York, a group of illegal immigrants attacked two police officers in Times Square. A photo shows one of the assailants giving the finger as he is released from custody. Why should illegal aliens respect our laws if our government doesn’t?
We need to realize that Adams, Bragg, Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson, and other incompetent leaders did not emerge from thin air. People chose them. Nothing demonstrates a greater lack of respect for existing laws than Joe Biden’s open borders policy, which ignores federal immigration law. His policies have been supported by “sanctuary cities” that act as if federal law does not apply.
Why should illegal aliens respect our laws if our government doesn’t?
Biden is simply following in Obama’s footsteps by turning the Justice Department and FBI against the American people. He is sending a message that anything goes in the pursuit of power, from weaponizing the justice system against political opponents to rigging elections.
Finally, consider double standards in law enforcement. Democrats and Republicans are treated very differently by the legal system.
