If Early Vote Trend Continues, Trump Wins

Political analyst Mark Halperin said Tuesday that early voting trends in battleground states favor former President Donald Trump and suggested that “the election will be over on Election Day before we know who will vote.” He said that morning meeting.

This trend could prompt the Harris campaign to hit the panic button in the coming days, leading to more fiery rhetoric aimed at boosting turnout among supporters.

Halperin, an analyst who tries to report data without spin, said Early voting in Nevada and North Carolina appears to favor Trump, which is “much more significant than current polling.” Polls show Vice President Kamala Harris and Trump are virtually tied in all seven battleground states.

Republicans appear to be more likely to vote early in Nevada, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania.

“We don't know exactly who's voting these votes, how they're voting, etc. But the analysts I've talked to in the last 24 hours, including people who speak publicly, Everyone is saying, “At this rate, Donald Trump has a chance.'' “Democrats lose because they are unlikely to do well enough on Election Day,'' Halperin explained.

Halperin added that the 2020 election is a difficult benchmark to estimate at this point, but the data appears to favor Trump.

We don't know what the turnout will be. This is a cycle born out of the coronavirus cycle. A lot is up in the air, but once again, there are two things that no one will tell you. No one, no matter how partisan, can tell you that the early voting data is nothing short of scary for Democrats so far. If this trend continues on election day, the election will end before we know who will vote on election day.

“What's causing the poor performance of democracy here?” Halperin asked Democratic program co-host Dan Turrentine.

“That's a great question, and certainly in Wilmington, they're desperately trying to figure it out,” Turrentine responded. “If you look at the poor performance of Democrats not only in Nevada, but also in Philadelphia and Atlanta so far, we're seeing that in Las Vegas as well.”

Turrentine added that Harris' campaign appears to be struggling with Latinos, black men and young voters. “Those issues don't seem to have been resolved yet,” he explained.

“I get a little bit of heartburn when I do something like this. At the same time, Mark, like you said, Nevada is supposed to be one of our best states, so our base voters… Some of them don't seem to be doing very well right now,” Turrentine concluded.
