President Donald Trump confirmed Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s comments on Friday, saying that if Russia or Ukraine makes peace talks “very difficult,” the US will withdraw from its role in the debate. At the same time, the president hopes to be able to reach a deal.
After sworn Dr. Mehmet Oz as administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services in the oval office, the reporter said, “Rubio said he must know if the US can make a deal between Russia and Ukraine in a few days, or we’ll just move on.”
“Yeah, soon,” replied Trump.
“We don’t have a specific number of days, but we want to get it done,” Trump said when asked about our potential release timeline from consultations.
He also emphasized that the war is causing thousands of casualties a week.
“Ideally, I’m going to stop it,” Trump said. “Now, for some reason, one of the two parties makes it very difficult, we say, ‘You’re stupid. You’re a fool, you’re a scary person, and we’re just going to take a pass.” But hopefully, there’s no need to do that. ”
“And that’s what Marco says. We want to finish it. Think about it. Every day, a lot of people are killed because they’re playing the game,” the president continued. “So we’re not going to take that. …We’ll see. But I think it’s likely to solve the problem.”
Trump was also asked about what he wanted to see from Russia and Ukraine, and the US continued to be involved in the talks.
“My life is one big negotiation and I know people are playing us, I know they aren’t. I have to see the enthusiasm to end it,” Trump said. “And I think I see that enthusiasm. I think I see that from both sides, but you’ll know soon.”
