Don Lemon’s Surprising Comments on Political Aspirations
Former CNN anchor Don Lemon has stirred up quite the conversation with recent comments hinting at a possible shift to politics.
During an appearance on Spencer Macnaughton’s “Uncloseted” podcast, Lemon mentioned that if there’s enough public support, he might consider a run for the presidency. He suggested there’s a good chance—perhaps more than 50%—that he could actually do it someday.
‘It makes me wonder if my best way of being and operating in this society, whether it is through journalism or if it is through becoming the president of the United States.’
“I mean, I never say never. There’s a lot on my plate right now with my current work. Honestly, it’s not an easy task, but I do feel very aware of the significance of what I do and its impact on culture and society,” Lemon shared.
He gained prominence as both a primetime anchor and morning show co-host at CNN but was let go in 2023 after facing several controversies.
“How serious is it? If the people want me, I’ll do it,” he declared. “But running for president is a massive commitment; you’d have to be fully dedicated. I still want to prioritize my journalism.”
When discussing his chances of running, he estimated them to be between 65% and 70%.
“When I interact with the candidates and closely observe their actions, I see they’re quite skilled,” Lemon admitted.
Lemon’s dismissal from CNN was partly due to his controversial remark about Nikki Haley, a presidential hopeful, claiming she was “past her prime.”
Recently, after using his celebrity status to create a YouTube channel, Lemon participated in a protest against a church in January concerning its support of Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Though he was arrested, he contended he was there in a journalistic capacity.
“There’s no time more crucial than now for an independent media that shines a light on the truth and keeps those in power accountable,” he stated during that period.
In February, Lemon pleaded not guilty and sought to have multiple motions dismissed in August.
