Ilhan Omar and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) are perhaps Biden’s fiercest opponents in his party, but they have supported the president and will likely resist calls for him to resign. “The issue is resolved,” Ocasio-Cortez said on Monday.
“I spoke with the president over the weekend. I’ve spoken to him multiple times. He’s been very clear then and since then that he’s in this race. This matter is resolved. He reiterated that this morning and he reiterated that to the nation: Joe Biden is our nominee. He’s not withdrawing from this race. He’s in this race and I support him,” she said.

Calls for Biden to resign were widespread across the political spectrum after the first presidential debate, but the president’s firm determination to continue the campaign has caused many to question his original position. On Monday, he said on MSNBC Morning Joe The people still want him, but it is only the “elites” who are asking him to step down.
I was one of the few people who publicly said before the 2022 election, “There’s no red wave, there’s no red wave.” I went around the country. I didn’t believe it at all. Then in the big elections in 2023, many of them, not all of them, I went on the campaign trail saying we were going to win. And we did win.
The American people are not going to walk away from me as an average voter. Again, I’m here for two reasons. One, to rebuild our economy for hardworking middle-class people and give everybody a chance. Everybody gets a fair chance. Number two, remember when I said I don’t have the support of black people? Give me a break. Come with me, take a look. I’m frustrated with the elites. Not you guys, but the elites in my party. Oh, they know a lot more. Anyone who doesn’t think I should run, run against me, run for president, challenge me at the convention.
Since then, leading Democrats within the party have publicly supported Biden while denounced calls for him to withdraw.
