Omar Critiques Trump’s Military Orders in Los Angeles

Minnesota Democrat Ilhan Omar has called attention to President Donald Trump’s recent orders sending troops to Los Angeles, suggesting that such decisions have diminished the hope many once had in his leadership.

During an interview with “Democracy Now!” conducted at the U.S. Capitol, which was released on Friday, Omar shared her thoughts.

“Can you imagine that image coming from our country? I mean, I grew up in a dictatorship, and I don’t even remember seeing that,” she remarked.

In her passionate address, she stated: “We are in the midst of creating a police state, where individuals are taken from the streets, and those responsible hide behind masks and heavy weaponry. An army is stationed in our city. This is America.”

“In our community, the same week, the president has deployed a military force trained to combat adversaries—not Americans,” she continued.

Omar’s remarks come as the president faces scrutiny regarding his constitutionality in ordering troops to Los Angeles without local state officials’ consent, particularly amidst ongoing legal disputes with California’s Democratic Governor, Gavin Newsom. Critics have accused the president of attempting to militarize urban areas, although his supporters argue that aggression toward federal agents warrants such federal action.
