Representative Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) recently declared that Minnesota liberals had triumphed over “ICE’s racist campaign of terror” in a video that capitalized on a trending TikTok-like format. However, her attempt was swiftly met with backlash.

In a 10-second clip she posted, members of The Squad appeared to shift uncomfortably, adjusting their blazers and fidgeting. Omar, 43, seemed to take a moment to prepare as dramatic music played softly in the background.

She claimed in the video, “I’m preparing a documentary about how we defeated ICE’s racist terrorist operations in Minnesota,” with this text overlaying her image. Her captions included, “We’re built differently in Minnesota,” punctuated with arm and blue heart emojis.

Many viewers reacted negatively to her take on the viral documentary trend, which involves participants acting like they’re sharing a poignant confession.

One critic expressed frustration on X, saying, “This is so disgusting. All these little clips are being stolen.” Another sarcastically speculated, “I’m waiting for the documentary she’s filming in prison,” possibly referencing a congressional investigation concerning her finances amidst a significant welfare fraud issue in her community.

Another Facebook user questioned, “Or is it a scam documentary?” This sentiment seemed to echo the doubts of several onlookers.

Omar’s assertion that ICE had “lost” might be disputed by some, particularly given that over 4,000 illegal immigrants were apprehended during a recent operation in Minnesota.

As one critique summed up, “‘Defeat’? I think everyone has a different definition of that word.” Neither Omar nor ICE has made a public comment in response to inquiries about this incident.
