Reports indicate that Ilhan Omar’s second husband, Ahmed Nur Saeed Elmi, has reappeared on social media, where he calls himself “Dirty Dandy” and shares glimpses of his enjoyable life in South Africa.
Elmi, 40, who has relocated from the U.S. to Johannesburg, is actively posting on social media, including photos where he wears a visitor badge at the University of the Witwatersrand, depicting his daily experiences in the city.
Omar, meanwhile, has expressed concerns about scams affecting the Somali community, emphasizing their frustrations with situations like the “feeding our future” scandal.
Elmi’s return to public attention coincides with President Trump’s assertive claims about Omar’s past, suggesting that she married Elmi’s brother to sidestep U.S. immigration regulations. During a rally in Pennsylvania, Trump made pointed remarks about her alleged motives.
Trump stated, “She married her brother to get in, right? Can you imagine if I married my sister?” He further questioned Omar’s legitimacy in the country, implying she should leave due to these accusations.
In an interview, Trump elaborated, stating that he did not want to see someone like Omar, who he claims married a relative for citizenship, holding a governmental position while constantly complaining about issues in the country.
Omar has categorically denied these allegations since her election and has faced scrutiny over her marital history, particularly regarding her marriage to Elmi in 2009. She initially married Ahmed Abdisalan Hirsi in a religious ceremony in 2002, while her legal marriage to Elmi, a British citizen, added to the controversy surrounding her.
After separating from Elmi in 2011, they weren’t officially divorced until 2017. Following her civil marriage to Hirsi, which ended in divorce in 2020, Omar then wed political aide Tim Mynett.
Elmi, who has shifted his focus to academia, reportedly completed his Ph.D. at the University of Bristol and has engaged in research related to gender studies and international development.
As of now, there has been no comment from either Omar or Elmi regarding the recent developments.
