Illegal alien votes in ‘multiple’ US elections after stealing identity of American citizen, DOJ alleges

The Department of Justice alleges that an illegal immigrant living in Alabama falsely identified himself as a US citizen and used that false identity to vote in “multiple” US elections.

The Department of Justice announced Thursday that Angélica Maria Francisco, 42, of Guatemala, has been charged with nine counts of falsely claiming citizenship in connection with voting, making a false statement on a U.S. passport application, using a U.S. passport obtained under a false statement, and aggravated identity theft. Department of Justice Press Release.

Authorities believe Francisco falsely identified himself as a U.S. citizen around 2011 and used that false identity to obtain a U.S. passport, then allegedly used that passport to travel to Guatemala in 2012, 2015 and 2018, before renewing his passport and visiting Guatemala again in 2022.

The Justice Department alleged that Francisco registered to vote in Alabama in 2016 and also used a false identity to vote in the 2016 and 2020 primary and general elections.

In order to keep the number of foreigners voting as close to zero as possible, Republican lawmakers are seeking to pass the Protect American Voter Eligibility Act (SAVE Act), which would limit voting in federal elections to U.S. citizens only.

Francisco most recently lived in Russellville, Alabama, a city of about 11,000 people about 75 miles west of Huntsville. It's unclear when or where she entered the U.S., but the Justice Department has described her as an “illegal alien.”

The Department of Justice also said a plea agreement has been offered in Francisco's case, in which he has “agreed to plead guilty to all charges.” A U.S. District Court has scheduled a hearing on his case.

The Justice Department's announcement undermines recent assertions by Democrats and mainstream media that allowing foreigners to vote in U.S. elections is “too much.”rare“It will have a major impact on the outcome of the election.”

In order to keep the number of foreign voters as close to zero as possible and increase confidence in U.S. elections, Republican lawmakers have sought to pass the Protecting American Voter Eligibility Act (SAVE Act), which would limit voting in federal elections to U.S. citizens only.

The bill passed the House in July with 216 Republicans and five Democrats in favor and now heads to the Democratic-controlled Senate for consideration. To increase its chances of passing, Republicans have pushed for the SAVE Act to be tied to a continuing budget resolution.

“If Senate leadership truly believes that our democracy is sacrosanct and that the SAVE Act is unnecessary because it is already illegal for illegal immigrants to vote in federal elections, then passing a Congressional Record that includes the SAVE Act should not be an issue. If that's a problem for Democrats, they should explain to the American people what the problem is,” Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.) wrote in a recent report. Newsweek Editorial.
