Mr. Zuniga was arrested and charged with numerous crimes, including drunk driving, vehicular manslaughter, and reckless driving, but was inexplicably allowed to remain under house arrest and was deported to Honduras on September 6, where he is still awaiting trial. I haven't received it. Reported.

On Thursday, a spokeswoman for Miami-Dade State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle said the office is currently “working to have Mr. Zuniga returned from Honduras to stand trial.”

The blunder infuriated the victim's family.

“They say they're still investigating,” Miriam Castillo, sister of crash victim Paola Sabillon, told WTVJ this week. “That's literally all they say. They haven't given us an ounce of hope.”

Meanwhile, an attorney for the Miami-Dade Department of Corrections said the department's policies and procedures have been updated to “prevent it from happening again.”

The state attorney's office announced Thursday that it would not comment on the case, fearing it would jeopardize efforts to bring Zuniga to justice.
