The Deerfield Public Schools 109 district responds to a federal Title IX investigation launched on an administrator's allegation that forces middle school students to change in the same locker room as trans students.

“Deerfield Public Schools 109 District is governed by state law. Illinois Human Rights Act prohibits all public school districts, including gender identity, from discrimination based on gender, and requires students to allow access to locker rooms and bathrooms according to their gender identity.

“We are sensitive to the privacy needs of all middle school students and ensure that there is no need to change to gym uniforms for the previous PE classes of other students. If both middle schools were renovated in 2017, we added five private change stations available to all students.
The district also said it will work with local families to decide on the next step.
“The district and the board are united with our leaders and educators on this issue and have a common commitment to supporting the law,” the statement continued.
“The district and the board are calling on all people who express concerns and perspectives on the issue to ensure that staff and educators are respectful and civic. We are pleased to work with our families to determine the appropriate next step to help our children in the well-being and participation.”
