‘I’m Not Embarrassed By Anything I’ve Done’: Fani Willis Unapologetic, Determined To Proceed With Case Against Trump

Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis said Saturday that she is “not embarrassed” by her relationship with fellow attorney Nathan Wade and is determined to move forward with her case against former President Donald Trump.

Willis appeared in an interview with CNN at an Easter event to discuss her thoughts on the outcome of the hearing into her relationship with Wade and the allegations that she approved funds used to pay for their vacation. Allegations of an affair between Wade and Willis surfaced in January, and many subsequently questioned the timeline of their romantic relationship, as Willis also chose Wade to serve as special counsel in the Trump case.

Willis told the outlet that his actions were not “illegal” and were “not embarrassing,” and the Fulton County attorney said the “train” against Trump would continue. (Related: Jonathan Turley says judge’s opinion gives Fani Willis ‘last chance’ to ‘do the right thing’)

“I don’t feel like I need to restore my reputation. For the record, I’m not ashamed of anything I’ve done. My biggest sin is probably [that] I had relationships with men and it was never embarrassing. And I know I didn’t do anything illegal,” Willis said.

“My team continues to work, and so do the media, especially organizations such as: [yours], I’ve been paying attention. The whole time that was happening, we were writing a responsive brief. We were still handling cases the way we needed to. I don’t feel like my speed has slowed down at all. I’m sure there are efforts to slow this train down, but it’s getting closer. ”

After Willis’ hearing, Chief Judge Scott McAfee gave prosecutors the option of having Willis and his team drop the case against Trump or having Wade withdraw. Mr. Wade resigned from the case on March 15, claiming his reasons for doing so were “in the interests of democracy due to my dedication to the American people” and to advance Mr. Trump’s case “as quickly as possible.”
