"I’m Not Racist": Ana Navarro Challenges Conservative Columnist After Referring to Him ‘As A White Man’

Navarro and Polumbo Clash Over ICE Rhetoric

CNN commentator Anna Navarro expressed her views on immigration policies during a discussion with conservative columnist Brad Polumbo on Monday. She suggested that his criticism of her statements regarding the operations of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) was influenced by his racial background, although Polumbo countered that he didn’t agree with that perspective.

Navarro’s comments came after ICE conducted a raid at a marijuana farm in Southern California last Thursday, where they rescued at least ten minors, eight of whom were reportedly unaccompanied. During the “CNN Newsnight” segment, Navarro described the ICE operation as a form of “terror governance” affecting the Hispanic community.

“When I mentioned the governance of terror, I want to clarify that it can be seen as hyperbolic,” Navarro stated. “Because it’s indeed hyperbolic.”

She continued, addressing Polumbo directly, “Your perspective could be viewed as hyperbolic, but as a Latino, my experience is different. I’m not being racist here.”

Border security official Tom Homan noted at a press briefing on May 30 that attacks against ICE agents have increased, with doxxing incidents reaching unprecedented levels.

“I’m not disregarding your opinion. I’m discussing the views within the Latino and broader brown community in America,” Navarro added.

Polumbo, feeling a bit sidelined, expressed his frustration, saying, “When I try to bring up my viewpoint and it gets dismissed because I’m white, it’s rather insulting.” But Navarro interrupted him, questioning his understanding of the diverse circumstances many individuals face in the country.

The host of “CNN Newsnight,” Abby Phillip, supported Navarro in her position, explaining, “What she’s saying is her perspective is inherently different from yours; I don’t think that’s an insult.”

Polumbo rebutted, “She indicated I was incorrect simply based on my race.”

A recent spate of attacks has occurred since July 4, aimed at Border Patrol facilities and ICE offices in locations like McAllen and Alvarado, Texas. Over 500 individuals reportedly assaulted ICE agents during the operation in California, according to a statement from the Department of Homeland Security.
