Protest Disrupts Kamala Harris’ Book Event
Former Vice President Kamala Harris faced interruptions during her book launch for “107 Days” on Wednesday night due to pro-Palestinian protesters.
Video footage showed Harris addressing the New York City audience while dealing with the protest. “I’m not the president now,” she explained to the protesters. “There’s nothing I can do.” The crowd echoed a similar feeling with one person shouting, “She is not an elected official!”
An observer noted the peculiar timing of the protest, saying, “We haven’t seen pro-Palestine activists for months, but now they’re interrupting Harris, who has no political power. It almost feels like a performance.”
The venue appeared to lean against the protesters, with audience members chanting “Ka-Ma-la” as security escorted the activists out.
Harris acknowledged the situation in Gaza, stating, “What’s happening to the Palestinians is outrageous and it breaks my heart. I get it.” However, protesters continued to disrupt her, brandishing signs like “Harris: Genocide is your legacy” and “717 days of Genocide.”
In a frustrated tone, Harris responded, “Everyone, listen, I’ll actually write about this too, do you get it? It’s about how you’re saying what you’re saying and why, and what I know about how I felt about it. You don’t let me talk.”
She further attempted to calm the audience, saying, “Wait, a bit, unlike the current president of the United States, let’s lower the temperature…” which drew cheers.
In excerpts from her newly released book, she reflected on political tensions, mentioning, “I wanted Trump in the seat on the other side of [Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu].” Harris emphasized the need for understanding, stating, “The war in Gaza is not a binary issue,” stressing the importance of acknowledging the complexities and shared suffering of both Israelis and Palestinians.
