On Thursday, Virginia state Senator Louise Lucas, a Democrat, was indicted by federal prosecutors related to a supposed bribery and racketeering scheme.
A source within law enforcement confirmed to the Daily Caller that members of Lucas’ family had been given a deadline until 9 a.m. Thursday to turn themselves in, as reported by Virginia Scope reporter Brandon Jarvis.

The same source noted that Attorney General Todd Blanche and FBI Director Kash Patel are set to hold a press conference at 10 a.m. on Thursday.
A 45-page indictment was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, naming Lucas and six others. They face several charges, including conspiracy to distribute marijuana, conspiracy to commit money laundering, and bribery. The prosecutors allege that they used Lucas’ medical cannabis business to distribute large amounts of illegal marijuana.
The indictment contains evidence of communications from Lucas, where on February 9, 2026, she reportedly expressed, “this is our last chance at generational wealth…. I’ve got too old to not be greedy.”
Lucas, now 82, turned herself in to law enforcement Thursday morning and is facing five out of the eight charges listed in the indictment, according to a CBS News report.
This indictment follows a search conducted by federal agents at Lucas’ office and The Cannabis Outlet, a shop she co-owns in Portsmouth, Virginia, nearly six months ago.
A prominent Virginia state senator, Lucas has been an outspoken opponent of former President Donald Trump and played a significant role in the state’s redistricting efforts last year.
Federal prosecutors claim that Lucas has been at the helm of this scheme since at least 2019, leveraging her political position to promote legislation and regulations that financially benefitted her while shielding the alleged operations from state authorities, as per CBS.
Additionally, the indictment states that she oversaw the purchase and sale of over 100 kilograms of illegal marijuana. Alongside Lucas, her daughters, Lisa-Lucas Burke and Theresa Lucas-Lamb, her grandson, Ryan Eichelberger, and several other co-defendants have also been charged.
