‘I’m Torn Between First Amendment Civil Liberties and National Security’

On FBN’s “Kabuto: Coast to Coast” Thursday, Sen. Mike Braun (R-Ind.) explained the ongoing TikTok showdown at the Capitol.

Brown said he was “torn” between both sides of the debate, but added that the threat of Chinese involvement loomed.

“I also have two questions about Chuck Schumer,” host Neil Kabuto said. “One is whether he should take up this bill that passed overwhelmingly to crush TikTok and force Chinese company owner ByteDance to sell it. But he’s willing to take it on. What do you and your colleagues think?”

“Well, I think he’s probably listening to the most progressive side of the Senate and the party as a whole,” Brown responded. “This was an overwhelming percentage in the House. And it’s as bipartisan as you’ll see. He really needs to explain why he won’t bring it to the Senate floor for a vote.” I think that would explain some of the reasons why they think politically they shouldn’t do it.”

“I see no good reason not to bring this issue to the floor,” he continued. “I am torn between the civil liberties of the First Amendment and national security on the other side. I find it hard to believe that business partners who don’t share this relationship would do anything other than outrageous things.”
