Hundreds of property tax bills have been adjusted due to a software error that unintentionally removed important exemptions.
Many homeowners in Gwinnett County received property tax bills that were unexpectedly high, as reported by the Tax Secretary’s Office. This problem arose when a contractor responsible for tax software mistakenly omitted an exemption that affects about 0.1% of property owners.
The tax commissioner’s office disclosed that this error had significant implications for those affected, emphasizing that the exemption plays a crucial role in reducing property tax amounts for many residents.
In a news release, they noted that rectifying this issue is now a priority, and steps will be taken to ensure that any affected homeowners are compensated appropriately.
