Impostor Scheme: Chinese Haverford College Professor Accused of Pretending to be MAGA to Harass Jewish Colleague

Haverford College Professor Arrested for Online Harassment

Professor Guangtian Ha, who teaches at Haverford College in Pennsylvania, has been arrested and charged with online harassment and intimidation. The allegations include directing severe antisemitic attacks against a Jewish colleague. It’s reported that he used several anonymous MAGA accounts on X to target this individual while also disparaging Trump supporters.

Ha, who is a religion instructor, has been placed on administrative leave and is not allowed on campus as legal proceedings unfold, according to a statement from Haverford College President Wendy Raymond.

Between approximately October 9, 2025, and May 20, 2026, Ha allegedly sent around 50 messages to the victim from at least four different accounts. These messages, detailed in an indictment filed on September 30 in a Pennsylvania district court, are said to include threatening language and antisemitic content.

Raymond expressed her deep concern over the situation, emphasizing that any form of harassment or discrimination is unacceptable at Haverford College. She mentioned that this incident is especially distressing given its timing with the Jewish High Holidays and the third anniversary of the October 7 attacks.

Columnist Steve McGuire highlighted that Ha, originally from China, had been posing as an anonymous supporter on the platform while actually being part of Faculty for Justice in Palestine. In addition to spreading hate-filled messages, Ha reportedly shared his Jewish colleague’s home address, details about their children, and even made threats regarding observation of their home.

Some of the messages attributed to Ha reportedly include violent and hateful language, urging, for instance, that Jews should be removed from America and referring to them in derogatory terms. One message suggested that Jews should face dire consequences as time goes on, while others openly expressed hatred in alarming ways.

Following the victim’s decision to increase security measures, Ha is claimed to have warned them about the futility of those precautions, implying that they and their family were not safe.

Ha’s actions, as detailed in the indictment, display disturbing patterns of harassment and prejudice, placing him in stark opposition to the values upheld by the academic institution. It remains to be seen how the legal proceedings will unfold for this case.
