High School Football Field Gains Fame for Soccer

A high school football field in West Virginia is now known for an unusual soccer moment. On a recent Friday night, Akeem Davis, a 6-foot-1, 320-pound lineman, impressively navigated through traffic to score a touchdown for the Wheeling Park Patriots.

This remarkable play, dubbed the “Sick Six,” took place during the second quarter of a game against the John Marshall Monarchs. Davis intercepted an errant pass and powered his way toward the end zone, despite being surrounded by defenders. He managed to break free around the 20-yard line, making it a spectacular defensive touchdown.

Play-by-play announcer Jack Hillgrove voiced the excitement, saying, “Davis, we’re cheering you on! Look at him go! They can’t stop him! Akeem Davis is still on the move, are you kidding? He’s going for a touchdown!”

The highlight quickly became a viral sensation, with many labeling it one of the best defensive plays in recent history. The next morning, ESPN’s “College Gameday” praised Davis, leaving the show’s hosts in awe of his impressive feat.

Pat McAfee chimed in, urging the team to maximize Davis’ talent, saying, “Give him the ball more! We’re in playoff season. Let’s put him at fullback!”

Speaking of playoffs, Davis’ fantastic pick-six helped propel the Patriots to a 63-40 victory over John Marshall, securing home-field advantage in the postseason.
