IKEA Opens First City Center Store in Culver City
People are gathering in Culver City as IKEA launches its first “city center” store in the Los Angeles area, situated in the long-anticipated Helms Design District.
Shoppers eagerly arrived at the large blue-and-yellow building on Saturday, taking advantage of opening day discounts while enjoying family-oriented activities.
Images from the event captured large crowds waiting outside the expansive 38,000 square-foot store, buzzing with excitement as the Swedish furniture brand greeted its new patrons.
The celebration kicked off with a block party featuring free giveaways, music, and, of course, beloved IKEA staples like their iconic meatballs that keep customers coming back.
A long-time employee, Gustavo Tinajero, shared his enthusiasm about the new store. With 32 years at IKEA under his belt, he expressed how much he loves the company, saying, “I’m really looking forward to opening the new store. If something is out of stock, it will be available by the next day, so customers won’t have to go far.” He was joined by his daughter, Nadia.
Inside, shoppers could browse through thousands of city-friendly products and over 3,000 items ready for immediate purchase, all while enjoying the well-designed showroom that catered to small living spaces.
Melanie, 30, who recently relocated to Los Angeles from South Carolina, mentioned, “My mom and I wanted to explore new locations and decorate our apartment. It’s really nice not having to drive far for that.” She highlighted the fun atmosphere, complete with free treats, live music, and exciting giveaways, which made the outing even more enjoyable.
The grand opening featured performances, including a mariachi band, and a vibrant entertainer on stilts who posed for pictures with excited kids.
Unlike IKEA’s typical large suburban locations, the Culver City store is designed for convenience, catering to urban shoppers while still offering popular Scandinavian products. A grab-and-go café named Swedish Bites includes snacks, sandwiches, and fan favorites like cinnamon buns and frozen meatballs.
For many residents, the opening of this store is a much-anticipated addition to the Westside, bringing IKEA’s distinctive offerings closer to home.
The store operates daily from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., located conveniently near Highways 405 and 10, with free parking available in the Helms Design District and nearby areas.
IKEA currently has various full-service stores across California, including locations in Burbank, Carson, and San Diego.
