Vancouver’s Neil Bailey was one of them, saying, “I love the idea of Root hitting on both ends right now.” But to be fair, Robinson easily outplayed him this morning. They stand around like it’s a rainy weekend, but Siraj leaves and comes in steeply. Two bouncers punched Robinson, who tried to take swipes but missed both times.

92 overs: England 307-7 (Root 106, Robinson 35) Deep is back after yesterday’s impressive turn. I need 2 more to get 5 on debut. The cautious Root plays the maiden. Alas, too soon, his sixth ball is a no-ball, but Root is wary of his seventh as well.
91st over: England 306-7 (Root 106, Robinson 35) Siraj jumped at the top of Mark with a knee to the chin. There was no new ball yet, the old one he drifted to the leg side, Robinson flicked him off his boot and it was quickly gone for four. Finally he got two balls in and India won the shiny red cherry. A quick swing, but no cigar.
