Indian Diplomat Vikram Doraiswamy Stopped From Entering UK Gurdwara By Khalistani Extremists

The video shows pro-Khalistan activists blocking Vikram Doraiswami’s car.

New Delhi:

Vikram Doraiswami, India’s High Commissioner to the UK, was stopped by Khalistan militants as he tried to enter a gurdwara in Scotland. The incident comes as Canada accuses India of involvement in the murder of terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar.

According to a video purportedly circulating on social media, pro-Khalistan activists were seen blocking Mr Doraiswami from entering the Glasgow Gurudwara on Albert Drive.

The video shows two men near the High Commissioner’s car in the parking lot. One of them was seen trying to open a locked car door from the inside. The High Commissioner’s car then leaves the gurdwara premises.

The Indian High Commissioner was invited by the Gurdwara Management Committee. A longer version of the purported video shows Khalistani militants also threatening Gurdwara Management Committee staff.

There was no immediate response from the Indian government. As this relates to the safety of the High Commissioner, a complaint has been filed with the police, sources said.

The spat broke out after Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau claimed that “Indian government officials” were involved in the murder of terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. India rejected Trudeau’s accusations as “irrational.”

Prime Minister Trudeau has not provided any evidence to support his claims against India, but reports say this is information shared among an intelligence alliance that also includes the United States, Britain, Australia and New Zealand. India rejects the charges and accuses Canada of providing safe haven to terrorists.

Tensions have been brewing between the two countries since Prime Minister Narendra Modi rebuked Trudeau over rising separatist activity in Canada during bilateral talks on the sidelines of the Group of 20 summit in Delhi. In 2018, India is said to have given him a list of nine Khalistan operatives.
