Indiana player's brother joins transfer portal after securing national championship

Alberto Mendoza Enters NCAA Transfer Portal

After the Indiana Hoosiers won the national championship against the Miami Hurricanes, a decision has been made by Fernando Mendoza’s younger brother regarding his future in football. Alberto Mendoza, who played as Fernando’s backup during the 2025 season, has announced he will enter the NCAA transfer portal. He confirmed this in a recent social media post.

This season, Alberto participated in nine games for the national championship-winning team, completing 18 passes for a total of 286 yards and five touchdowns. His journey with the Hoosiers began in 2024 when head coach Curt Cinetti took charge, although he only got to play in one game that year.

Fernando Mendoza’s transfer from California to Indiana before the start of the 2025 season was a significant move, one that apparently was influenced by Alberto’s input. This transfer is viewed as a key change that strengthened the team.

Looking ahead, Alberto finds himself in a tough spot as he searches for a new team, especially since former TCU quarterback Josh Hoover has committed to Indiana. This adds more competition for the starting quarterback role, making it challenging for him to secure that position next season.

As of now, many schools are still on the lookout for quarterbacks for the upcoming 2026 season, but it remains uncertain where Alberto will land.
