Indians Shouldn’t Interpret Trump Literally

Washington, DC:

Michael Rubin, a former Pentagon official and senior fellow at the American Enterprise Institute, expressed a tendency to highlight nearly every accomplishment of President Donald Trump. He even joked that Trump might have “invented the Internet” and “cured cancer.”

This commentary followed Trump’s remarks about the tensions between India and Pakistan, where Rubin advised that Indians shouldn’t take the president’s claims at face value.

During an interview with Annie, Rubin noted, “Donald Trump loves to boast about his achievements. When I asked him, he claimed he won the World Cup by himself. He invented the internet. He cured cancer.”

Rubin further stressed the importance of Washington’s diplomatic endeavors regarding the US involvement in the Indian-Pakistani conflict, especially considering the risk of nuclear escalation.

He mentioned, “Whenever India and Pakistan find themselves in conflict, the US attempts to mediate quietly. This is crucial to avert the worst outcomes, as the US is working to offer alternatives to avoid prolonged wars. It’s also clear that Islamabad views Washington as a channel to convey its messages.”

On Monday, Trump asserted that his administration was pivotal in mediating an immediate ceasefire between India and Pakistan amidst rising tensions between the two nuclear-capable nations.

“We averted a nuclear conflict. It could have led to a catastrophic war. Millions could have died. I want to thank Vice President JD Vance and the Secretary of State. On Saturday, we facilitated an immediate halt to hostilities,” Trump stated.

“We are incredibly proud to report that the leadership in both India and Pakistan is exceptionally robust and influential…and our assistance has been significant. We have fostered trade.”

In response to a terrorist attack last month that claimed 26 lives, India initiated Operation Sindoah. Following that, more than 100 terrorists were reportedly killed during operations in Pakistan and the Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir on May 7th.

India effectively retaliated against further assaults from Pakistan and targeted an airbase.
