Individual passes away after plunging from Goliath roller coaster

Incident at Six Flags Over Georgia

On Monday, a tragic event unfolded at the Six Flags Over Georgia amusement park, resulting in one person losing their life, as confirmed by local authorities. Several others were also reported injured.

A spokesperson for Six Flags expressed their sorrow over the incident, stating, “We are deeply saddened by the guest incident at our park today. Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with the guest’s family, friends, and loved ones. We are also providing support to the guests and team members affected.”

The Cobb County Police Department reported that the unfortunate event occurred shortly before 4 p.m. Details surrounding the circumstances remain unclear, as police have yet to release extensive information.

Witnesses described the scene as horrific, with reports indicating that a man fell from the Goliath roller coaster. One witness recounted to WXIA that the man was visible in their souvenir photo at the time of the incident. “He was in our pictures,” the witness noted, adding that the man struck a nearby car multiple times during his fall.

After the incident, the 200-foot-tall hypercoaster halted its operation, leaving passengers stranded until emergency crews arrived to assist with evacuations. Footage from the scene displayed individuals climbing out and descending a staircase positioned high above the ground.

The Six Flags statement further indicated, “The park team and local authorities responded immediately, and we are cooperating fully with local authorities as they complete their investigation. Out of respect for the family’s privacy, we will not be sharing additional details at this time.”

It remains unclear what specifically triggered the roller coaster’s stoppage or when it might reopen. According to the park’s website, the coaster can reach speeds up to 70 mph and features an initial drop of 170 feet, followed by another drop of 175 feet, a 540-degree spiral, and G-forces reaching 4 Gs.

Authorities from both Six Flags Over Georgia and the Cobb County Police Department have been contacted for further information.

This is a developing story. Please stay tuned for updates.
