Trump Defends Tucker Carlson Amid Controversy

Former President Donald Trump spoke in defense of Tucker Carlson after Carlson’s interview with far-right figure Nick Fuentes stirred significant backlash. Trump suggested that individuals should be able to form their own opinions on such topics.

The interview with Fuentes, which aired on October 27, has drawn major criticism from various conservative figures. Republican Representative Randy Fine labeled Fuentes as one of the “most dangerous anti-Semites in America” and described him as a “leader of a modern-day Hitler youth.”

Texas Senator Ted Cruz also condemned Carlson for giving a platform to Fuentes, asserting that remaining silent in the face of Fuentes’ extreme views makes one complicit. According to Cruz, “If you sit there with someone who says Adolf Hitler was very, very cool, and you say nothing, then you are [a] coward and you are complicit in that evil.”

Cruz challenged those criticizing Fuentes, asking, “Are you willing to say Tucker’s name?”

During the interview, Carlson questioned Fuentes about his past racist remarks, emphasizing that his Christian beliefs reject the idea of “blood guilt.” He mentioned that each individual should be judged independently.

“I don’t really care what the [Anti-Defamation League] thinks of me,” Carlson stated. “But my Christian faith tells me there’s no such thing as blood guilt.” He added that attributing virtue or sin to DNA goes against his beliefs.

Carlson acknowledged the importance of questioning the U.S. relationship with Israel, but he opposed any anti-Semitic sentiments, firmly stating, “it’s against my Christian faith.” He characterized such collective thinking as a form of identity politics.

Fuentes responded with agreement, stating, “As a Catholic, I could not agree more… we have to love them all.” He recognized the growth of “legitimate racial hatred” and emphasized the importance of addressing prejudice.

Fuentes mentioned that some people conflate valid critiques of Israel with prejudicial sentiments, stressing the need to differentiate between the two.

In light of the backlash, Trump defended Carlson during a Sunday night interview, reflecting on their relationship. “I found him to be good… We’ve had some great interviews,” he remarked.

He continued, “If he wants to interview Nick Fuentes… people have to decide. Ultimately, people have to decide.” Trump further discussed his previous dinner with Kanye West and Fuentes, clarifying that he was unaware Fuentes would be present.

“Meeting people, talking to people, that’s what they do,” Trump added. “Some are controversial. Some aren’t. I’m not controversial, so I like it that way.”
