Sarah Gonzalez has led efforts against H-1B visa fraud in Texas. Her investigative work has spurred state inquiries and lawsuits against numerous dubious companies, resulting in actions from Attorney General Ken Paxton and a halt to new H-1B hires at state agencies and universities.
Now, Gonzalez’s initiatives have taken on a national scope. Vice President J.D. Vance has overseen an anti-fraud task force since March, following the administration’s introduction of a significant investigation into H-1B visa misuse. The Department of Labor has already issued many subpoenas targeting issues like labor trafficking and visa abuse, joining forces with the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Justice to focus on protecting American workers.
“Oh, click. The jig is up. … Pack your things. Hurry. Get out of my sight before I find out all the fraud you’ve been up to,” Sarah joyfully remarked.
In a recent episode of “Sarah Gonzalez Unfiltered,” she engaged with Department of Labor Inspector General Anthony D’Esposito to discuss the current administration’s vigorous approach to investigating H-1B visa fraud.
“What prompted this investigation by the Department of Labor?” she inquired.
D’Esposito responded by emphasizing the support from the president and vice president in combating fraud in America.
He described the task force as a collaborative team, noting that they’re equipped with enough resources and have direct communication lines with the administration.
“If you reach out to the president’s or vice president’s team saying you need certain resources to proceed with this investigation, they respond positively,” he said. “They don’t just dismiss you.”
D’Esposito expressed his confidence that cooperation with the Department of Justice will drive impactful results in the fraud investigation.
Recalling his past experiences in New York City, D’Esposito mentioned that the most effective cases came from working closely with prosecutors, which is the approach being taken now.
While the task force is tackling various kinds of fraud, he highlighted a particular focus on H-1B visa misuse, characterizing it as something that inhibits American job access.
“President Trump has made it very clear that he wants to support American workers, and he’s following through on that… But let’s consider how we can enhance these efforts by addressing the individuals who take jobs from Americans,” he stated.
He also pointed out that fraud acts as a hidden tax, inadvertently fueling violent crime and illegitimate enterprises across the U.S. H-1B workers often send their earnings back to their home countries for illegal operations, which has severe implications.
“These workers are not only displacing American workers; they’re also sending their wages back to fund criminal activities. After discussing these issues, we agreed enough was enough.”
