Changes Coming to NTT IndyCar Grid in 2027

The landscape of the NTT IndyCar grid is set to change in 2027, following significant developments including the first sale of IndyCar charters and the addition of new teams.

On Wednesday, Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing announced the tentative sale of one of its three charters to Drewey & Reinbold Racing, pending IndyCar’s approval.

This marks the first charter sale since the system launched in 2024. As a result, RLL will transition from a three-car to a two-car operation, while DRR will rejoin the full-time roster with a single car.

DRR last participated full-time in IndyCar back in 2012, but they have consistently entered the Indianapolis 500, fielding two cars this year, piloted by Conor Daly and Jack Harvey.

This announcement comes shortly after the passing of DRR founder Dennis Reinbold on June 13.

In a statement, DRR CEO Derek Reinbold expressed gratitude towards RLL executives—Bobby Rahal, Mike Lanigan, David Letterman, and Jay Fry—for their support, emphasizing the partnership between the organizations.

Specific details regarding the drivers or which of RLL’s charters will move to DRR remain undisclosed.

Currently, RLL operates the No. 15 Honda driven by Graham Rahal, the No. 35 Honda piloted by Lewis Foster, and the No. 47 Honda, which is being handled by rookie Mick Schumacher.

According to FOX Sports’ Bob Pokras, Rahal and Foster are confirmed for next season, while Schumacher’s future is uncertain.

This uncertainty has sparked speculation about Schumacher’s spot on the team, despite him having a standout season in Nashville.

After the race, Schumacher mentioned to Pokras that he believes he has a solid chance of securing a position on the grid come 2027.

Given the wild nature of this year’s IndyCar season—considered one of the most unpredictable in recent years—it’s curious to see even talented drivers like Christian Lundgaard, who has two wins and sits fifth in the standings, seeking new opportunities for 2027.
