Ingersoll: This May Be The Most Challenging Month For Gay Pride Since The HIV Crisis In The 1980s

Hello, everyone.

Father’s Day was a blast this weekend. Probably one of the best. By the way, we’ve got a third child on the way! Mark your calendars—new baby album drops on August 4th!

My Sunday started with early Catholic Mass, followed by a quick trip to Target with my wife. After that, I squeezed in two hours of mixed martial arts sparring. I even managed to spread 30 yards of mulch in the yard. Ended the day with a nice dinner, four cold beers, and a cigar. It was a good day to be a dad.

Anyway, here are some thoughts I’ve been having about Monday.

Alphabet Pride Month Issues

So, it seems like most of the talk surrounding LGBTQ issues is centered on the L—though, not the usual meaning. Honestly, it seems like it would be more interesting if it revolved around lesbians instead.

Losing momentum, I guess. Daily losses just keep adding up.

To be fair, it’s probably a blessing that the World Cup and summer tourism have taken the spotlight off Gay Pride Month. Some folks are relieved—especially with the recent events around Trump’s UFC match and his tendency to draw attention away from other topics.

Let’s just say, it hasn’t been a month to celebrate.

It began with companies hesitating to put out statements, as they do every year. People are realizing that embracing homosexuality isn’t translating into profits. The influence seems to be waning.

And it’s even worse on the sponsorship front; corporate backing has dropped by 40%. Pretty much, some activists are saying that many organizations are just “ghosts.” Essentially, it’s like saying just leave them to be forgotten, which is harsh.

But wait, there’s more.

A prominent urologist in the transgender children’s gender reassignment discussion was recently charged with child pornography. Of course, that’s just lovely.

This ties into the FTC’s lawsuit against WPATH, the organization behind the transgender children movement, showcasing serious flaws in the medical advice from Dr. Brian Sack. One child under this treatment faced severe urinary issues—quite painful, in fact.

A urologist who supports transitions said, “No, transition drugs are totally safe. The issue is that you’re simply not using the restroom enough.” A few months after halting puberty blockers, the boy’s bleeding stopped. Remarkable, isn’t it?

I hope he enjoys his time in prison. The inmates might have their own way of treating folks like him.

In some more disheartening news, the first transgender person elected to the state legislature was convicted of child pornography. It’s a little ironic, isn’t it? Barry Charles Laughton, also known as “Stacey Marie,” will serve 33 years behind bars. Another strike against the movement, maybe?

Lawton was sentenced in Boston, not too far from the mayor’s office. It’s worth noting that he was planning to host a “Trans Period Pride” event, focused on “menstrual equity.” It’s hard to wrap your head around the idea that people who identify as men voice complaints about periods they don’t have.

I’m serious here, that’s the event. The backlash was so intense that the venue kicked out the organizers. Now, they’re searching for a “secret location.”

Yes—men do not have periods!

This event, by the way, is taking place in Cazenovia, New York, south of Boston. There was also a locally famous drag queen who got arrested for child pornography. Quite the month.

Frankly, I think we need to revisit some older forms of justice here.

And it’s not just in the U.S.; Scotland has been facing its own challenges. They’ve made it clear that individuals identifying as male cannot enter women’s prisons.

Meanwhile, back in the States, the Supreme Court is set to rule on two cases involving transgender athletes. You can probably guess how that goes—no, biological men cannot compete against women.

Overall, it might just be the worst month for pride since the HIV crisis of the ’80s. I’ve got a sense things may not improve anytime soon.
