Ingraham Challenges Trump’s Commerce Secretary Regarding Chinese Students in the US

Ingraham Questions Trump’s Decision on Chinese Students

On Monday, Fox host Laura Ingraham challenged Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick regarding President Donald Trump’s approval for 600,000 Chinese students to study in the U.S. She expressed concern about what this move would mean for America.

During a ceremony in the Oval Office with South Korean President Ye Mi Myung, Trump emphasized the importance of maintaining relationships with China. After airing a clip of Trump’s comments, Ingraham pressed Lutnick on her show, “The Ingraham Angle,” about how the decision aligns with the idea of putting “America first.”

Lutnick explained that Trump’s perspective is that without these students, top American universities might lose competitiveness, risking the closure of less prestigious institutions. He mentioned that this influx assists prominent schools like Harvard and UCLA, which Ingraham criticized as “anti-American propaganda factories.” She seemed puzzled by Trump’s approach, questioning its rationale.

Earlier in June, Trump indicated that hosting Chinese students could be beneficial but cautioned that oversight was necessary. This came after he announced a deal between the U.S. and China regarding the presence of Chinese students in American educational institutions.

Lutnick also discussed plans to reform the H-1B visa program and adjust the green card allocation process. He criticized the current program, stating that the average American salary is higher than that of green card holders, advocating for a focus on attracting the best talent.

Ingraham reflected on the potential of American engineering students, asserting they excel when given opportunities.

This discussion follows a recent suspension of entry for foreign students at Harvard University, which cited increasing concerns over campus violence involving non-immigrant students.
