A man held in Atlanta's troubled Fulton County Jail was found unresponsive in his cell Wednesday and died at a hospital, authorities said.

Jail staff on guard discovered Michael Anthony Holland, 36, in his cell early Wednesday morning, the sheriff's office said in a news release. Prison staff unsuccessfully tried to resuscitate Holland, who was pronounced dead at Grady Memorial Hospital.
A suspect found unresponsive in an Atlanta jail has been reported dead.
Atlanta police will investigate the fatal crash, and the county medical examiner's office will conduct an autopsy, the statement said.
Holland was arrested by Eastpointe police and booked into jail on May 4 on charges of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer and intentional interference with a law enforcement officer by threat or violence, according to the release. He was being held on $55,000 bail.

The Justice Department's Civil Rights Division released an investigation last year into conditions at the Fulton County jail, citing violence, filthy conditions and the death of a man whose body was found covered in bugs last year. Ten people died in Fulton County jails last year, according to the sheriff's office.
