A Georgia inmate, deemed “armed and dangerous,” escaped from a hospital after a suicide attempt and managed to order an Uber during his escape, officials reported.
Timothy Shane, 52, was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta around 8 p.m. Sunday for a medical evaluation after trying to take his own life while in prison, as stated by the Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office.
According to police, Shane fled on foot early Monday, stole an SUV along with a handgun, but soon crashed the vehicle and left it behind.
On Tuesday morning, authorities shared that further investigations indicated he had requested an Uber to drop him off at a “residence south of Rockdale.”
However, when officers went to that location, he was nowhere to be found.
Police also reported that earlier footage showed Shane stealing a silver Pontiac Grand Prix near Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Monday night.
The stolen Pontiac was later located at a public area in Henry County.
Shane, who stands 5 feet 9 inches tall with a distinct floppy hairstyle, was last seen in images released by police dressed in a red hooded sweatshirt and dark blue pants. He also had access to shoes.
This convict has a history of evading law enforcement and faces previous charges related to drugs and firearms.
Details on how he managed to escape from the hospital remain unclear.
“He is still considered armed and dangerous,” police warned.
