‘Insanely Anti-Democratic,’ ‘Quite Dark’ that Elites Have Such Power, Disregard for Voters

Republican vice presidential nominee Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio) told Breitbart News on Monday that it was “deeply anti-democratic” and “deeply evil” for Democratic Party elites to remove President Joe Biden as the party’s presidential nominee with just over 100 days until the election.

Vance, who was announced as Republican presidential nominee and former President Donald Trump’s running mate at the Republican National Convention on July 15, said in a phone interview Monday afternoon ahead of a hometown rally in Middletown, Ohio, that Democratic elites see the move as proof that Democrats are the real threat to American democracy.

“Whatever you think about Joe Biden, I certainly don’t like him or his policies, but they effectively got rid of a president because he was a political liability and didn’t give voters a choice about the outcome,” Vance told Breitbart News. “When you really think about it, it’s actually pretty dismal. A bunch of billionaires and Democratic politicians got together and decided to take away from the voters who chose who the Democratic nominee was. This is really anti-democratic, and it’s hysterical that they actually held a primary after years of saying that the Republican Party is an anti-democratic party. President Trump has earned the trust and confidence of Republican voters and the right to represent them on the national stage. Whoever the Democrats ultimately nominate has no democratic legitimacy because they didn’t consult the voters. They were never given a chance to participate in this process. I think it’s extremely offensive to them and to everyone to think that someone who the voters have never had a say in has almost a 50-50 chance of becoming president of the United States.”

Biden announced Sunday afternoon that he was withdrawing from the presidential race after weeks of urging from members of his own party to do so following his disastrous performance in a debate with Trump in late June. Biden had secured the Democratic nomination in early 2024, fending off weak challenges from Rep. Dean Phillips (D-Minn.) and author Marianne Williamson. More than 14 million Democrats voted for Biden, but their votes have now been wiped out by efforts to remove him from the race. Vance said Vice President Kamala Harris should have run against Biden if she wanted to run for president in 2024. And so should anyone else, really.

“This is clearly anti-democratic. If they wanted someone else to be president, they should have done what everyone else is supposed to do: promote a candidate, raise money for that candidate, spread the message and convince voters to choose that candidate. That’s what we actually do,” Vance told Breitbart News. “Instead, what they did was get Barack Obama, George Clooney and George Soros in a room together and decide to throw out Biden because he was a political liability and put somebody else in. This is an extraordinarily elitist and anti-democratic process. I don’t think we’ve ever seen anything like this in the history of the republic where they identified a president’s political weaknesses and then threw him out without giving the voters a chance to have their say.”

When Breitbart News pointed out that Biden is still technically the president despite dropping out of the race for November’s election, Vance responded, “In theory, right?”

When asked how he felt about Biden remaining president but having no public events scheduled for next week, Vance said he found the whole situation truly “eerie.”

“It really highlights how creepy it is that Biden hasn’t been showing up and speaking to the public,” Vance said. “He hasn’t shown any signs other than announcing that he’s not running for president. When someone announces that they can’t run for president, you have to question whether they can serve as president. It’s just so creepy. Democratic elites are trying to control the country without giving the voters a chance to decide. I’m just insulted by that. Obviously I’m not a Democratic primary voter, but if we really respect the voters and we respect our process, they should be the ones making these decisions. We shouldn’t have George Soros, George Clooney and Barack Obama sitting in smoke-filled rooms.”

More details about Vance’s latest interview with Breitbart News will be released soon.
