Inside Keyshawn Davis’ unique mindset ahead of first world title bout

Boxing has so many nicknames, many of which are ridiculous or far beyond the actual height of fighters in the sport.

However, Keyshaun “Businessman” Davis chose the more modest Monica.

And he lives on it.

That's why the 25-year-old former Team USA Olympic silver medalist wanted to treat his first world title fight the same way as everyone else.

Davis (12-0, 8 KOS) will square with 36-year-old Dennis Belinchik as the main event on Top Rank Card Friday Night (East 9pm) at the theatre at Madison Square Garden. .

“That means I'm fighting another fight,” Davis told the Post. “To be honest, a lot of the things in this sport have not really been incorporated until after the fact. Like, “Oh, well, I'm fighting for a world title at MSG, and I'm the main event.” You cannot become. I can't do that because it's just a distraction.

“Because it's a different battle. I've fought for the rest of my life. After winning that world title, I can take in everything I've done now and everything I've experienced. I'm just living in that moment. is.”

Davis certainly has confidence in himself and his abilities.

However, he doesn't enjoy the top rubbish stories that are common to most boxing stars.

That's not his style.

“All about this sport, I personally don't need anything,” Davis said. “Just the same. I don't really do. When I talk about trash, I don't deliberately underestimate fighter jets. I don't raise people's families, etc. I'm always boxing. . …I just move the level head.

“I always say that emotional fighters are dead fighters.”

But that's what really intrigues the match, beyond the interests of the hands.

This time, Davis is actually taking it personally.

He claimed on Wednesday that Belinchik's team sent the package to a hotel room along with bananas and watermelons.

“I want to deal with the fact that this guy comes to America and gives him a banana and a watermelon with a note,” Davis said. “It feels like a racist, not an expert. And you just made this fight a little more personal. This guy has a box of bananas and watermelons to take to my room. I brought it to America. I took it as a racist. So I got something for you.

“Y'all did that. It's okay if you do that. I'm going to make your ass wh for that. Know what's coming on Friday night.”

Berinchyk refused to send the package, suggesting he is a random fan trying to cause trouble.

But Davis's thinking changed regardless.

For someone who emphasized removing emotions from his skills, is he fighting himself angry now?

And as long as he wants to ignore it, the seduction of his first world title is hard to overlook.

It's time for Davis to become a truly “businessman.”
